WHAT WE DO

Corkhill Bros has been offering the Canberra community a public green organics drop off facility for over 40 years. As of April 2017, our facility has also begun  accepting green organics collected in the ACT kerbside green bins. Corkhill Bros is committed to implementing a circular economy waste management approach. All green organics that are dropped off at our facility enters a process to ensure it is beneficially re-used within the community.

The green organics are ground up daily (see the video below for a short preview of this process!), before allowing the product to sit for 3-4 months. This allows the particles to break down before additives are introduced and turned into the piles for mixing. At the end of this cycle, the processed green organics is added to a number of our products including Forest Litter, Super soil and Vegi mix. These products are available for purchase year round from our Mugga Lane and Mitchell facilities. Head down to either of these facilities to purchase these products and help us help Canberra recycle!

CHANGES TO COMMERCIAL GREEN WASTE DROP OFF

1. When will the charges commence?

The charges will commence in 2 stages:

  • Commercial medium rigid, heavy rigid vehicles and above will be charged as of 1st December 2021
  • Commercial light rigid vehicles will be charged as of 1st January 2022

2. What is a light, medium and heavy rigid and what fees apply?

Fees apply for commercial light rigid, medium rigid and heavy rigid vehicles and above only.

These vehicles are classified and charged as follows:

Commercial light rigid – $30.00/load

A light rigid truck has 2 axles and a GVM (gross vehicle mass) between 4.5 & 8 tonne

Commercial medium rigid – $45.00/load

3. I drive a commercial medium or heavy rigid, where will I go as of 1st December 2021?

All commercial medium and heavy rigid vehicles or above will now need to enter via the weighbridge. Medium rigids with undersized green waste will pay upon entry. Heavy rigids will need to enter and exit via the weighbridge.

All vehicles with oversized green waste will continue to enter and exit via the weighbridge.

4. I drive a commercial light rigid, where will I go as of 1st January 2022?

All commercial light rigid trucks will now need to enter via the weighbridge. If they are carrying undersized green waste they will pay upon entry.

All vehicles with oversized green waste will continue to enter and exit via the weighbridge.

5. Where do I go after passing over the weighbridge?

When you pass over the weighbridge you will be given a pass to give to the green waste inspector once you are at the green waste drop off pad. Once the green waste inspector has approved your load as clean and undersized you are able to leave the facility without passing over the weighbridge again.

If the green waste inspector has classified your load as oversized, contaminated or you drive a heavy rigid vehicle or above you will need to proceed back to the weighbridge and pay for your load.

6. Will there be any additional changes to the traffic flow?

Additional signage will be displayed at the Mugga Lane Weighbridge prior to the 1st December to help visitors become familiar with the minor traffic management changes before the commercial charges begin. These signs will guide customers to queue to the righthand side of the weighbridge upon entry so they do not block the main driveway to the facility.

Heavy rigid vehicles and above or those with oversized green waste will need to pass over the weighbridge after tipping at the green waste pad. Our weighbridge is 2-way giving these vehicles the option of exiting via the same way they entered, or turning around in the landscape yard and exiting from the rear of the weighbridge.

7. What types of payments will be accepted?

We only accept card or account payments. Cash is not accepted.
